Several years ago, I read a book by Louise Hay called "The Power is Within You." I finished reading the book on a return flight from San Francisco when I was a NBC television reporter in Miami. I had grappled with the idea of changing careers but never had the courage to do so until I read this book. Upon reading the last page, I closed the book, turned to my husband and told him I would be getting out of TV news and would work toward becoming a teacher. It seemed like a crazy idea to many at the time. How could I walk away from a lucrative career in TV? I walked away because I knew the job was slowly killing me. By the age of 23, I was on high blood pressure medication. I was mentally drained from covering murders, fatal accidents and knocking on the door of parents who had just lost a child. I was in search of a career that would bring me happiness, peace and positivity. I found that in the classroom. Have you ever read a book that changed your life?
