Several years ago, in an effort to learn to simplify my house/life, I joined a Yahoo group called the Compact. Its goals were to drastically reduce consumption for a year in an effort to improve quality of life. Their stated goals were: 1) to go beyond recycling in trying to counteract the negative global environmental and socioeconomic impacts of U.S. consumer culture, to resist global corporatism, and to support local businesses, farms, etc; 2) to reduce clutter and waste in our homes (as in trash Compact-er); 3) to simplify our lives (as in Calm-pact) I fell drastically short of those goals LOL but it DID and HAS made an impact on my thinking. I highly encourage you to read, learn, open your mind to this line of thinking. Its made me explore living off the grid lifestyles, homestead as its defined today, and really keeping in mind the concept of what buy local means. When we stop learning and growing, we begin to die. Im in no hurry to die :)
