Several years in the making, the Moving Targets exhibit at Brushwood Center at Ryerson (Riverwoods, IL) is both gorgeous and extremely moving. One of the panels summarizes the premise: Both Eastern European Jews and passenger pigeons were moving targets: hunted in their circumscribed territories. The survival, resourcefulness, and adaptation of Eastern European Jews in North America contrasts sharply with the indigenous passenger pigeon that could not flee across an ocean to flourish anew. In addition to the work of the projects creators Ann Rosenthal and Steffi Domike, Moving Targets incorporates pieces by several other artists from across passenger pigeon range. The show runs through June and I would encourage everyone who can to visit.
