Severe Thunderstorm Outbreak Midwest Today Midwest - A significant severe weather outbreak is likely across the Great Lakes and Ohio Valley on Sunday as a vigorous negative tilt trough blasts into the region. - Chicago, Indianapolis, Louisville, Detroit, Cincinnati, Columbus and Cleveland will all be in the path of these severe thunderstorms. - Damaging wind gusts, large hail and tornadoes are likely with these severe thunderstorms, along with localized flash flooding rainfall. - Some snow will fly in the colder air on the back side of the storm across the Dakotas and northern Minnesota. - Temperatures will vary from near average to 18 degrees above average. Highs will range from the 30s in North Dakota to the 60s and low 70s in the Ohio Valley. - Monday will be dry, except for a little light snow across the northern Great Lakes and a few showers across northeast Ohio. South - A front brings a band of showers and T-storms, some severe, on Sunday from the lower MS Valley to the southern Appalachians. - Damaging wind gusts and isolated tornadoes are possible with these severe storms. - Even outside of any thunderstorms, south to southwest winds will be strong and gusty across Arkansas and the Tennessee Valley Sunday. - Temperatures will be warm, varying from near average to 20 degrees above average. Highs will mainly be in the 70s and 80s, except for some 60s in the southern Appalachians. - Any lingering showers and thundershowers will push off the Carolina coast or southward to the Gulf Coast and Florida Monday. No severe is expected Monday. Northeast - A deepening low pressure across the Great Lakes will quickly increase showers and storms across the region by Sunday evening. - Storms could contain damaging winds into Pennsylvania and western New York Sunday night. - The storms overtake the I-95 corridor early Monday morning with locally heavy downpours and gusty winds. - Even outside of any thunderstorms, southerly winds will be strong ahead of the cold front from later Sunday into Monday morning. - Behind the front, westerly winds will remain strong across the eastern Great Lakes Monday. - Temperatures will generally be 5 to 10 degrees above average Sunday with highs from the middle 40s in northern Maine to the low 70s in southeast Virginia. - After a mild Sunday night, temperatures will still be above average Monday with highs ranging from the 40s in western New York to the 60s along the Eastern Seaboard. West - Much of the heavier snow diminishes quickly across the Rockies on Sunday as the upper trough exits into the Plains and Midwest. - Some leftover snow showers across Wyoming, Montana and Colorado will linger through the afternoon. - A few light showers are possible across western Washington and Oregon, but more widespread rain moves back later Monday. - Gusty westerly winds will linger across Montana, Wyoming and northern Colorado. - Temperatures will be near or slightly below average, except slightly above average in easternmost New Mexico. Highs will range from the 30s and 40s across the Northwest to the upper 60s and 70s in the deserts. - A brief break in the precipitation will return to the Northwest into Wednesday and Thursday.
