Severe Weather Warning IDV28000 Severe Weather Warning for damaging winds for people in the South West, Central and West and South Gippsland forecast districts Issued at 10:39 am EDT on Saturday 3 January 2015. Weather Situation Northerly winds will persist ahead of a low pressure trough. The trough will move into southwest Victoria during the early afternoon, reaching central districts during the late afternoon and evening before stalling over the northeast on Saturday night. Winds averaging around 60 km/h with damaging peak gusts of 90 km/h are forecast over parts of the South West, Central and West and South Gippsland forecast districts this morning and early afternoon, particularly over elevated areas. Whilst there is likely to be some slight easing by mid afternoon, potential thunderstorms may produce wind gusts around 75 to 85 km/h during the afternoon and evening. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: Move vehicles under cover or away from trees. Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony. Keep clear of fallen power lines. For emergency help in floods and storms, ring your local SES Unit on 132 500. The next warning will be issued by 5:00 pm EDT Saturday. This warning is also available through TV and Radio broadcasts; the Bureaus website at bom.gov.au or call 1300-659-217*. The Bureau and State Emergency Service would appreciate this warning being broadcast regularly.
