Sgt. Mark McKinney and SPO Chuck Guhl Participate in Back To School Giveaway at Cottage Grove Presbyterian Church Good Morning All, On behalf of Roberta Victor, the CROSS Ministries Committee, and myself, we certainly want to thank Sgt. McKinney and Officer Guhl for their tremendous help last week during our Back-to-School Giveaway! From reuniting a 3-year-old separated from her frantic mother, to directing traffic, to resolving incidents when people tried to cut in line, and just generally keeping things calm, you had an immense impact. The attached photos attest to the friendly face you put on the Des Moines Police Department. Some additional information about the school supply give-away. 357 students were given a backpack with appropriate school supplies. When we completely ran out of backpacks we continued to put what supplies were left in in cloth bags until every pencil, every crayon, and every sheet of paper were given away. The line was the longest I have seen for this event, stretching through the parking lot, down 24th street to the corner, then down Cottage Grove Ave crossing the alley.
