Shah, Naqash prevented from visiting bereaved families, detained half way Srinagar: Police on Saturday detained the Chairman Democratic Freedom Party Shabir Ahmad Shah along with Islamic Political Party Chairman Mohammad Yousuf Naqash when they were on the way to North Kashmir’s Markandal and Kondbal area to express their solidarity with the bereaved families of youth killed in Army firing on Sunday. In a DFP statement issued to Global News Service, the spokesman said that while Shah and Yusuf were on the way when huge contingent of police intercepted them at Sumbal Sonawri and arrested them. Condemning the police action, the DFP spokesman said that it is government which is responsible for the killings of Kashmiri youth and stops pro- freedom leaders from expressing their sympathy with the suffering families. “By arresting the pro-freedom leaders including Shah, the struggle will not lose its momentum but will be carried forward with more enthusiasm,” he said adding that the arrests will have a negative bearing on the situation across the Valley. Terming the government action as a mere interference in the religious duties of leaders the spokesman said the so called democratic government has made the lives of people miserable as security forces have been given unbridled powers under the draconian laws like AFSPA. The spokesman added that from last two and a half years the DFP Chairman has been either kept under house arrest or put behind the bars by authorities, which is an act of state terrorism. “Omar Abdullah has already accepted the Chattisingpora and Machil fake encounters as the blunders. Similarly time is not far when the so-called Chief Minister will term the autocratic behavior of his own government as unjustified mistake,” the spokesman added. (GNS) ^ B.K.^
