Shame on those who mislead the public by twisting tragedy into political opportunity. Let those officers deaths not be in vain. Let them be a wake-up call to end the divisive rhetoric. Let them signal the humanity and vulnerability of even the good and noble officers who serve. We should not loose sight of them because of all the ones whose actions have led to our outcries and protests and prayers for justice. Let their families grieve without politicians and union leaders manipulating their loss and inciting anger that will only serve to increase risk for officers and citizens alike. Its past time for the immature in leadership to grow up and be more responsible for their words, which are perpetuating instead of resolving the problem, and have the power to bring life or death! Under the reasoning espoused by Giuliani, King, Pataki, and others over the weekend, the responsibility for all kinds of violence should apparently be extended to every corner of our political world. Which is largely why this blame game isn’t worth playing. Tragically, lunatics sometimes commit horrific crimes. When it comes to maintaining a healthy discourse in a free society, let’s not connect their violence to political opinions we may or may not like.
