Shape Up Challenge Journal from Jennifer Wintheiser... About a year ago, a few co-workers got me to start going to classes offered at BCBSMN. At first, I was reluctant as I wasnt really keen on working out over lunch and then being sweaty for the rest of the day. But, after taking a few classes and figuring out my after class routine, I was hooked. With 2 small children and a husband that has a very demanding job, working out during the lunch hour was the perfect fit for me. When I started taking classes, I was about 6 months post kidney donation surgery. I needed to make sure that I was taking care of myself and felt that I was in a good place to start exercising. I had already been working at losing weight but knew that I needed to add in the exercise component. Over the course of the last year, the number on the scale hasnt changed much but I know that I have changed how my body looks and decreased my body fat %. My blood pressure and creatinine levels (kidney function) have improved since my surgery and I credit my exercise routine for helping with that. I enjoy the classes that BRX offers and that each week, each class is different and presents a different challenge. There have been weeks when I wasnt sure I could get out of my chair or lift my daughter but for me, that is a good reminder that I am doing something for myself (both mentally and physically)!!
