Shaping the future. An Excellent sermon by Reverend Bob Weniger of @St. Andrews Presbyterian Church (the International Church of Kuala Lumpur). In Alice in the wonderland Alice asked a talking cat: “Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?” “That depends a good deal on where you want to get to,” said the Cat. “I don’t much care where -” said Alice. “Then it doesn’t matter which way you go,” said the Cat. If you have read a few motivational/self-help book, you would have said , AH! The moral of the story is Alice doesnt know what she want, hence she doesnt know/doesnt matter where she goes. TRUE, but i think we are missing a point. The real point is that even though she knows where to go, she is still in a rabbit hole! And think about it. Are most of us living life to our fullest potential or we have we been sucked into a rabbit hole of merely busy reacting to life? The former requires proper planning and deliberate action as it will definitely not happen by chance, but for the latter it is just a case of whatever will be, will be. We need to take time off sit back and reflect what we really want or what our life should be. Is a cliche, but we need to think outside the bo....i mean the rabbit hole. However the main takeaway for sermon is: God is not so concern with what he asked you to do, but the person you become as the result of your obedience in doing it! Have you considered what kind of husband would you be (loving,patient,God fearing) might be more important to your wife than what car/condo etc etc you have accumulated? Have you considered what kind of father would you be might be more important to your kids than the toys or material comfort that you have given them? So who would you want to be in the next 5 or 10 years and what step would you take to be closer to that goal?
