~Shared~ Subject: Kashmir Relief - Appeal for Support for Rural Areas Dear Brothers/Sister & Respected Elders, Assalamvalekum, Our support for the distressed people who have lost their houses/source of livelihood & facing severe winter ahead is vital..... The deadly & gory floods in the valley of Kashmir and its devastating impact on its people more particularly the rural folks of the valley is already known to all. In this connection a consortium of Hyderabad based NGOs lead by Help Hyderabad, who are quiet well versed with disaster management have come together to provide relief for the people of Kashmir. A fact finding team lead by Mr Zahid Quadri of Help Hyderabad was in the valley last week to do a firsthand assessment of the situation. cid:[email protected]:[email protected] ( A distressed Farmer lost his house and fields with Zahid in Pulwana Dist & local villagers who are doing volunteers work for relief) Below are some of the Highlights: 1) Srinagar is now recovering from the devastating Floods /waters have started receding in the main areas of the valley. 2) Leaving behind a massive trace of breakdown of infrastructure/housing/Industries namely tourism on which most the valley people depend on for the livelihood. 3) Most of the International Relief has arrived in Srinagar and the focus of these relief operations is at the moment limited to Srinagar town only. 4) The Rural areas of the valley are the worse affected and some of the villages are still cut off due to the floods. The need for focus on Rural Areas of the valley in the aftermath of the floods: - As mentioned above the villages are the worst affected by the floods. - Agriculture is the main stay and source of income for most the Kashmiris - Needless to say all the agricultural fields/produce is damaged beyond recognition - The Housing which is made of mud and wood is totally shattered – 70% of the housing infrastructure has collapsed in the villages. Present Situation in Rural Kashmir: - Relief agencies are disinclined to provide supplies due to security reasons in the valley - Govt is focused on infrastructure rebuilding and not doing much for the people for basic needs - No food stock available with the villagers – there is a tradition of stocking food grains all of which is washed away - Winters are setting in and temporary housing comprising of tents to many families with inadequate warm clothing posing large threat of illness and death. - Thus living the poor people without houses /no food to eat and severe winters starting shortly. Our Strategy & Plan for Relief: - Our immediate focus is to provide food grains comprising of 50kgs of Rice, 3kgsRajma/Pulses, 2kgs Sugar, 1kg Spices,2 ltrs Oil, Tea etc . - Foods grains per family will cost Rs 5000/- ( 2 months of stock) - Areas to be covered for distribution are: Gulshanbad Village of Pulwama District & Narbal in Badgam District - Total Population in the 2 villages to be covered is about 7000- 10000 ( 500 – 800 families to be covered) approx - Muslim Aid – UK our partner in this operation has committed to supply Blankets in huge quantities in addition to the above. Consortium of NGOs: Help Hyderabad, AL- HUDA Foundation International , Helping Hand Foundation, Muslim Professional Network, MUSLIM AID (U.K), ITEC (Islamic Truth Exploration Center) & lastly huge support form IT employees of J&K working in Hyd and also from local volunteers of villages including the panchyats – See attached Pdf We request one and all to come forward & provide max support to the people of Kashmir in the villages, who are seeing the worst calamity in the recent 60 years - which has hit them at the roots and snatched away all their possessions and the ability to come back to terms with their lives. We need at least about Rs 50 lacs to arrange for Food packs, which we intend to buy from the valley in order to provide impetus & boost to the local economy. No amount is small and each and every donation will add value and will be appreciated with utmost sense of gratitude.
