Shared from another Thread: My comment: A single person (or retired) IE entry level worker who earns minimum wage doesnt qualify for food stamps? A family isnt intended to be supported on minimum wage? Increasing the wage to workers at a business increases the cost of goods...thus lowering the buying power of the wage...and is just an artificial inflation. Market conditions set the wage...This is why in North Dakota for example the STARTING wage at any Walmart is $17.50 an hour....and McDonalds has signing bonuses for regular employees of several thousand dollars. Perhaps instead of us looking at Walmart to support with a wage plus an unmerited (by the market) handout we should look to create educational drive in people so they seek an Occupation instead of a job. Poverty isnt just a condition, it is most often a condition that becomes a choice. We need to focus on making it more of a choice by giving people a way out of it through opportunity not unmerited handouts.
