Shares remain in negative territory mid-afternoon: KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 18 — Share prices on Bursa Malaysia remained in the negative territory mid-afternoon, tracking weaknesses in broader Asian stocks. As of 3pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI was 2.95 points easier at 1,771.99. One dealer said stock prices stayed in the negative territory, taking a breather after their recent rally from lows in late August amid hopes of a modest cut in US Federal Reserve bond purchases. “Investors cut their bets on emerging markets amid an overhanging risk of US monetary stimulus tapering,” he said. On the scoreboard, the Finance Index increased 18.66 points to 16,626.39, the Industrial Index rose 5.14 points to 3,013.36 while the Plantation Index dropped 3.029 points to 8,339.15. The FBM Emas Index was 17.64 points lower at 12,290.03, the FBM100 Index fell 18.33 points to 12,041.78 and the FBM 70 lost 14.091 points to 13,946.14 while the FBM Ace chalked up 4.56 points to 5,157.33. Decliners led advancers 315 to 305 with 297 counters unchanged, 671 untraded and 21 others were suspended. Volume stood at 930.35 million shares worth RM725.26 million. Among actives, CSL added one sen to 21 sen, Maxwell gained five sen to 34 sen, Wong Engineering rose 11.5 sen to 40.5 sen, Asia Media was unchanged at 10.5 sen while AT Systematization lost half-a-sen to 13 sen. Among heavyweights, both Axiata and CIMB climbed one sen each to RM6.89 and RM7.59, respectively, Petronas Chemicals gained three sen to RM6.79, Maybank and Sime Darby were unchanged at RM10.18 and RM9.50, respectively. — Bernama dlvr.it/3zppj3
