Sharing Mary Schilkes post from the MQX page: I have to say one more thing about Springfield, to me it was the highlight of the show! Most of you heard about the shut down of OHare and that we couldnt get our featured speaker Mark Lipinski into Springfield for the Banquet or his class. Janet-Lee and I found out early Friday morning and got to work thinking of what to do. We decided to hire in a comedian and the hotel helped us to find a man named David Graham (he was wonderful BTW). He arrived moments before the start of the banquet and JL and I went out to meet him. While we were talking to him and finishing up what we needed him to do JL turned around and saw a soldier dressed in fatigues checking into the hotel. She proceeded to invite him to join us for dinner and he said he would be pleased to and asked if we would like him to change into his dress blues. Fast forward a few minutes later I got up to welcome everyone to the banquet and explain that we would have an honored guest. The crowd was wonderful and took in the changes to our evening with grace, and then it happened. Everyone was seated when our soldier in full dress blues came to the door.....the place exploded into cheers, a standing ovation and the tears flew. This young man forever more will be burned in my brain......... he appeared to be surrounded in light! His proud bearing and gracious manner were top notch. It was a God Bess America moment.... completely unplanned and totally fitting with our QOV theme. I hope everyone who was at the banquet or hears of this will do the same the next time they see a military man traveling.. open your arms and hearts for these brave souls ....
