Shashanka Ghosh remakes Hrishikesh Mukherjees hit middle class social Khoobsurat from 1980 with a fool-proof contemporary twist: a hyper-bubbly, social media-savvy plain Jane breaks all norms in a stiff princely household with a Hitlerian, grey-haired matriarch, inadvertently going on to woo the stony prince. Sonam Kapoor replaces Rekha and debutant Fawad Khan replaces Rakesh Roshan. Ratna Pathak Shah is the Maharani, the equivalent of Gupta aunty, played by her mother Dina Pathak in the original. Kirron Kher is in a hammy Punjabi mom role for the umpteenth time. Sonam Kapoor is all smiles, sighs and pouts in her quintessentially bubble-gum style.
