She should be voted out of office for this atrocity. These people do not get it. Charter schools are used as a tool of empowerment for communities. This bill is extremely anti-education, anti-community and demonstrates a gross disrespect for those who want to open new schools in communities where the traditional public schools are a disservice and disgrace to the local taxpayer. Africans and Caribbean people who have not used the charter model to empower their community should look into it. A charter school is an independent school district. You have more control over your curriculum and method of instruction than fighting the local school board. African and Caribbean people need to design and support their own charter school network to empower our children through innovative education. We have urban cities in Michigan that has lost their entire school district but this lawmaker wants to halt new charter schools. We must continue to open up charter schools that will focus on financial engineering, alternative energy, cultural and performing arts, international education, medical technology, process technology, civil engineering, vocational trades and Pan-African education to help rebuild depressed urban communities like Inkster, Michigan where the National African Business Association is busy working on the Global Education Zone. Charter schools can contribute to the local economy as well as connect students from the African Diaspora to the United States. Educational empowerment in our community is the tool to open the doors of prosperity. Meanwhile, New Orleans, Louisiana have a 100% charter school system. No Democratic or Republican lawmaker should support such nonsense in this day and time. African and Caribbean people must get involved in the charter school movement to globally build our childrens future. More community colleges in Michigan must authorize charter schools because both community colleges and charter schools are the engines of rebuilding local urban communities into global economic hubs of trade and commerce.
