Shelly Wynkoop I am a divorced mother of three young ladies, and although daddy is in the picture I am responsible and take care of all of their school, extra curricular , and social activities. Hayli is 6 and is now in 1st grade and is doing really well considering we have discovered she is also ADHD ...she is "high functioning" and we are lucky her health issues have all been very minor. The problem I am having is getting her to school on time, she has been temporarily diagnosed incontinent, accidents are often, and seems the chaos of the mornings brings about accidents more often than not. Sometimes its not accidents it purely a battle to get her out the door , she doesnt transition well , but once you get her there its great. I get up way earlier than most would in order to allow for more time to understand what we are doing and needing to do. I did this with my typical kids to the reminders of what is next think its good for kids. Anyhow she can be very stubborn and is very strong, i had a spinal fusion when she was ten months so physically making her is out , i find im begging sometimes to get her ready. Which never would have occured with my other children, the reason is the school has told me if I accumulate tardies like last year (kindergarten) they will have to turn it over as truancy! Now im panicked in the mornings. I have her on a McKay scholarship and I drive her 52 miles roundtrip everyday to ensure she goes to a wonderful program, and i understand the need for structure and being on time but it is not always easily done. Has anyone else dealt with these type of issues? We are in st augustine , florida and i know each region differs but i am tired of being nervous. Kids with Down Syndrome.
