Shema, PDP Call For Masari’s Arrest Over Death Of PDP Supporter Governor Ibrahim Shehu Shema of Katsina State and the ruling PDP have called for arrest and prosecution of former speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Aminu Bello Masari, over the murder of a PDP supporter in Karofi village of the state. It would be recalled that a middle aged man, Saifullahi Usman, believed to be a member of ruling PDP, was confirmed dead after he was allegedly stabbed by a suspected supporter of the former House of Reps speaker during a campaign rally. But in a statement signed by his media aide, Abdu Labaran, copy of which was made available to newsmen, Masari urged the ruling PDP to look else where for those championing political thuggery noting that politics to him is about issues not personalities. While Shema who urged security agents to investigate the circumstances surrounding the murder and ensure the law takes its course, was mild in his call for arrest of the former speaker, but the state chapter of PDP accused the former speaker of championing the murder. Masari’s aide, in a five-paragraph statement said his boss has never preached violence and “has told his supporters never to insult or engage in provocative acts in any way that will denigrate opponents”. He said the state governor “who recently urged PDP supporters to be violent on the members of opposition should be held responsible for this kind of violence”. “We hereby call on the chairman of the PDP Katsina State to publicly withdraw the said statement against Rt Hon Aminu Bello Masari and look elsewhere for those championing political thuggery and offer an unreserved public apology within one week.”
