Short versions – this sucks and I cannot stand seeing my wife go thru what she is. She keeps dealing with every painful test, side effects from the side effects and the roller coaster of good and mostly bad news – every time with some type of positive attitude mixed with fear. Long version - what we know and will start with the lungs. She has most of the tests come back as negative for a bunch of different infections (viral, fungal and bacterial) . We have to wait until tomorrow to find out the results on a few fugal type cultures left. She continues to be on life support, is mildly sedated but is awake and able to communicate by writing. She seemed to have some improvement late in the day yesterday but then worsen and has become stable but isn’t improving. About 11 pm last night they put a feeding tube in mainly for a couple oral medications but did start a very low volume of nutrition. She hadn’t eaten or had water since Monday about noon. They didn’t want her eating because of all the procedures they have been doing plus didn’t want to getting sick and having the breathing mask force it into her lungs. Kidneys are functioning but creatine levels at 3.4 continue to trend up which is not good. There was talk of dialysis yesterday but the current course is to wait. If things continue to trend like they are we wouldn’t be looking at that option until Monday. Improvement might take that off the table. The plasma replacement is off as more testing show this will not solve the problem. The broken blood cells are being slowing a slowdown in destruction due to the steroids but are still planning on the Soliris medication option tomorrow after the results.
