Shortage of Ration and Kerosene in Bhaderwah Deptt must explain when it will provide the quota: Rajinder Manhas MOHD ILYAS BUTT BHADERWAH, JUL 10. Although authorities claim that there are enough supplies of essential commodities, Bhaderwah continues to face acute shortage of ration and kerosene. Long queues could be seen outside ration depots but people had to return empty-handed as the distributors maintained that the supplies were still in transit. The shortage of essentials in the stores here has led to price escalation. “Government is taking people for a ride. Even they are not providing us wheat and rice in the holy month of Ramadan,” consumers alleged. Shortage of kerosene oil is adding to the woes of already beleaguered people of the Bhaderwah. Black-marketing and hoarding of essential items has made life of common people miserable. People from different parts are complaining of scarcity of essential commodities. Criticizing the functioning of Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CA&PD) Department, PDP Block President Rajinder Manhas said that malpractices like pilferage, black-marketing, hoarding and profiteering are causing shortage of ration. In a statement issued here today, he said that flaws in Public Distribution System (PDS) are making the people suffer who are buying ration from open market at unaffordable rates. He also said that no quota of sugar, wheat and rice is supplied to any ration depot this month in Bhaderwah because of reasons best known to the CAPD Department. He said that in this holy month of Ramadan when people keep fasting the whole day, non-availability of sugar is causing hardships for them. “Apart from sugar the condition of other commodities like atta , rice is also the same. Department must explain that when it will be providing quota of wheat, rice and sugar in ration depots in Bhaderwah", he said. He also said that a substantial number of families have been left unregistered with Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Department and they are forced to procure the ration from open market at unaffordable prices.
