Shortly before noon (12 p.m.) today, Friday, September 20, the Waukegan Police Department notified District 60 of an ongoing police incident on the southeast side of the city that required three District 60 schools to be placed on soft lockdown. Carman-Buckner Elementary School, Cooke Magnet School and EPIC-ELC were all placed on soft lockdown. During the lockdown students and staff were allowed to move freely inside the building, but no guests without a prior appointment were allowed to enter the school. As the incident continues, the District has altered dismissal procedures at these schools. The most significant change will occur/ is occurring at Carman-Buckner, where no students who walk to and from school will be allowed to leave the building without a parent. District 60 cannot make any statements about the nature of the police incident. Parents of students at affected schools are asked to contact their child’s school with any questions.
