Shri Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, popularly known as Mahatma - TopicsExpress

Shri Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, popularly known as Mahatma Gandhi, made huge contribution to Indias Freedom Movement. However, he also coercively influenced the decisions of Congress before & after the independence. Not allowing Subhash Chandra Bose to become Congress President was not the isolated one. His biases have also adversely affected the people of India. Dr BR Ambedkar, father of Indian Constitution, wanted that caste system be abolished. Dr Ambedkar emphasised that pride & self esteem of SC/ STs (Dalits) can only be restored by giving them same social status. He wanted Caste be abolished. Sardar Patel & most of the parliamentarians backed his suggestions. Nehru backed out citing possibility of civil unrest in the country. It was Gandhi again who backed Nehru and rather than Annihilation of Caste, a lollypop of reservation was served to Dalits. Over 60 years of reservation have passed & Dalits Pride & Self Esteem is still continues to be fractured ! Read the book Annihilation of Caste: The Annotated Critical Edition by B.R. Ambedkar. Listen to this original interview of Dr Ambedkar given to BBC Radio, to understand his pain and politics of (Mahatma !!!) Gandhi and how India was pushed back by personal agendas & opinions of leaders !
