Sibling thieves held, stolen gold found in body of accused Mar 14, 2014, 04.56AM IST TNN[ V Senthil Kumaran ] SALEM/NAMAKKAL: A 32-year-old woman thief found an innovative way to use her vagina, hiding stolen items including gold ornaments and cash in it. The issue came to light after she was admitted at Salem Super Specialty Hospital for severe stomach pain, early Thursday morning. The accused has been identified as R Thaara, wife of Ravi, from 7th cross Thillai Nagar in Trichy. Along with her sister R Rajeswari (28), she has been involved in a series of chain-snatching incidents. At 11.30am on Wednesday, the duo was travelling in a private bus going from Salem to Namakkal. Yuvarani (29), a woman passenger, got down from the bus at the Murugan Koil bus stop in Namakkal town, followed by Thaara and Rajeshwari. According to Namakkal police, the duo followed Yuvarani and snatched her six sovereign gold chain. When Yuvarani found her chain missing, she raised an alarm. As people began to gather around her, they saw the duo sprint but they managed to nab the sisters, the police added. When the locals questioned the sisters, police said they denied stealing the chain. However, the duo was caught red-handed when the chain fell from Rajeshwaris saree. Immediately, they were taken to the Namakkal town police who arrested the sisters based on a complaint lodged by Yuvarani. The accused were produced before the Judicial Magistrate number 1 of Namakkal combined court on the same evening who ordered the duo to be lodged in Salem central prison. Escorted by two police personnel including a woman constable, the duo was taken in a bus to Salem central prison. On the way to the prison, Thaara complained of severe stomach pain and she was taken to the Salem GH for treatment. Doctors who examined her directed her to the X-ray department. The technician was shocked when he saw foreign objects in her vagina. He immediately informed his higher officials who rushed to the x-ray room along with a woman doctor. When the latter examined her, she found some abnormal objects in her vagina. On interrogation, Thaara told the doctor that she had hidden her own jewels and Rs1500 in her vagina to prevent police from seizing the items during random checks. The doctors removed the jewels from her vagina. She rested in the ward during the afternoon and was discharged in the evening. Subsequently, she was lodged at Salem central prison.
