Sightings/Upcoming Tours Friday, September 6 Grizzly Expedition 12:00pm Upon picking up some guests at Browns Bay, the Tenacious III headed into Okisollo Channel, where they came across the A8’s! The 6 Northern Resident Orcas were headed into the Discovery Passage, what a neat find! Heading off to Bute Inlet, the Tenacious III zipped through the raging Arran Rapids before heading up the Inlet. Just before the Orford River dock in Bute Inlet, 6 Dall’s Porpoises were spotted swimming quickly past the vessel, headed for the mouth of the Inlet. The Homalco guide for the day, Calvin met the guests at the dock and took them up the river to the old Tower 3 where after only a few minutes 2 young Grizzlies and their mum popped out of the bush into the river to fool around! The young Grizzles were swimming and enjoying some horseplay which is always extremely adorable to watch! 2 more large Grizzlies came into view on the river’s edge, meandering down the river looking for salmon, they are so majestic to watch. After they were out of sight, everyone hopped back on the Homalco’s tour bus and headed to Towers 4 and 5 and after some patient and quiet waiting… ta-daa! The guests were treated to a nice large male fishing and chomping down on salmon right in front of the tower! The last half hour was spent with the male grizzly and a Sow (mom) and her two small cubs that joined in on the feast on the beach! What a day with 8 Grizzlies spotted! Everyone left the Homalco’s land with huge smiles on their faces and enjoyed the gorgeous sunset on the cruise home, a wonderful way to end a wonderful day! Captain John Lewis’s quote of the day: It is by universal misunderstanding that all agree. For if, by ill luck, people understood each other, they would never agree. -Charles Baudelaire Whale Watching Safari 1:30pm Another gorgeous day! Upon leaving Fisherman’s Wharf the Eagle 44 headed north, straight into Okisollo channel, where they met they passed the Tenacious III and found the A8’s! The 6 Northern Resident Orca whales were foraging heavily in the calm waters – what a sight! When foraging, Orcas seem to disappear and appear at the oddest places; fish are slippery suckers! Heading into Nodales Channel, the Eagle 44 came across a pod of 100 + Pacific White Sided Dolphins having a blast; they were going nuts, flipping, pop corning and riding the bow and wake of the boat! The Dolphins always steal the show! In Nodales, 5 Transient Orcas were also spotted, swimming east towards Sonora Island, most likely in search of some lunch! It was an incredible day with some gorgeous sightings! Captain John Lapp’s quote of the day: Nothing is a waste of time if you use the experience wisely. -Rodin - See more at: adventurewhalewatching/Sightings-Upcoming-Tours/2013-09/friday-september-6.htm#sthash.PyFgZx8s.dpuf
