Signature Rider #56, ROBIN BARSALEAU CHRISS, is entered in the Tevis on her 12 year-old, chestnut BLM Mustang gelding, Adagio VII. She is a first time Tevis rider and daughter of legendary horseman, educator and veterinarian, DR. RICHARD BARSALEAU. Her father, who is seen here climbing Cougar Rock, passed away on February 12, 2013. He was a fixture and well regarded in the Tevis community. Barsaleau first rode the Western States Trail Ride in 1964 and finished it fourteen times. It was “Doc B”, as he was known, who approached Wendell Robie in the early 1960s and suggested that a Veterinary Committee be formed to oversee the well being of the horses on the Ride. Robie appointed Barsaleau as the Chairman of the first Veterinary Committee. A son of a U.S. Cavalry officer, Barsaleau possessed excellent horsemanship skills and was a very balanced rider demonstrated here while riding over Cougar Rock. Even as a large man, Barsaleau’s forward position is centered over the shoulder of his horse. Robin, who learned well from her father, also maintains the same high standards in horsemanship. Good luck to Robin and Adagio VII on August 9th.
