Simon Lloyd linked to Rodney Eade’s old job at Collingwood NOVEMBER 02, 2014 7:29PM COLLINGWOOD has received significant interest in its vacant head of football role as the Pies continue to define the job description. Fremantle assistant coach and former Magpies’ high performance manager Simon Lloyd has been strongly linked to the vacancy created by new Gold Coast coach Rodney Eade. Magpies chief executive Gary Pert said the club was in no rush to make an appointment as its preseason plan had already been finalised. Collingwood’s first-to-fourth year players begin training on Wednesday, with a pre-season camp scheduled in New Zealand in the new year. Pert said he was yet to seek out any candidates but had already received a significant amount of inquiries asking to be considered for what some had described as “the job of a lifetime”. “I can easily comment on ‘Lloydy’ or anyone else rumoured to be in line for it because I haven’t spoken to a single person about it, as we are still defining the specifics of the role,” Pert said. “There has been a lot of people who have sent texts, called me and said ‘I want to be in mix’, ‘it’s the job of a lifetime’, ‘can I throw my hat in the ring?’” “It’s an aspirational role, so I understand there’s a lot of interest. A lot of people making contact. “But that’s very different from being a likely candidate.” Pert said the Pies were still determining what exactly senior coach Nathan Buckley and the rest of his staff required from the new head of football. Pert said master tactician Eade was appointed specifically to help support what was previously an inexperienced coaching group. “It’s a critically important role, so we won’t be rushing it, because we don’t have to,” he said. “There is no time frame on it and I’m also conscious that some of the people that may end up being in the mix may have different terms in regards to whether they need to give notice. “It may range from people who can start tomorrow or someone might not be able to start for three or four months, so timing is not critical.”
