Simple electric motor experiment for your kids. 1. 9v Battery 2. Around 22 gauge enameled copper wire. 20-22 will do. 3. Around 22 gauge solid core copper wire. 10-22 will do. 4. Magnet. The one pictured was taken from an old hard drive. 5. Stapler 6. Card stock 7. Wire with alligator clips ... The main thing to worry about is wrapping the enameled wire into a coil with around 20 turns. You have to SAND THE ENDS. If you dont, you wont get an electrical connection. The solid core copper wire is bent into two equal legs and stapled to the card board. Connect a battery and give the coil a jump start. You may have to bend, twist, wiggle and other wise screw around with the configuration to make it work. The coil needs to be close to the magnet and general balance issues apply. Cheers.
