Sin is always delightful in prospect - for no sin ever presents itself under the guise of evil. Evil is always willed because of the good elements. But our minds are also aware of the fact that this act or that would involve us in a sin. Our task, then, is to resist it-as we can. It does not matter how violent the temptation may be, nor how long it lasts: there is sin only when there is consent out the will. If we should yield, the chances are that we will excuse the act as the result of our temperament or give out a name which carries no reproach, calling out a human need. We tend to claim full credit for our virtues; our fault we blame on our environment or on some provocation beyond human endurance. Yet, in more honest moments, we know that it is superficial view that we take of ourselves, that we are not all we should like to be. It its then we ask: Why am I not better?
