Since 1947, Hospital Point Lighthouse in Beverly, Massachusetts, has been the residence of the First District commander of the Coast Guard. The commander oversees all Coast Guard missions across eight states in the Northeast including over 2000 miles of Coastline from the U.S.-Canadian border to northern New Jersey and 1300 miles offshore. The current commander is Rear Admiral Daniel B. Abel. In this photo, taken yesterday, is FS1 Melvin J. Acevedo on the lantern gallery of the lighthouse. Ace, as he is known, is an aide to Rear Admiral Abel, and he was my host for my visit there yesterday. Thanks, Ace!
