Since Facebook causes us to write information and comments, it is my pleasure to share with you some proper uses of words commonly misused. Many people feel that Facebook has its own form of shorthand or code. It does NOT! The English language has a great deal of tolerance. However, it has to be applied with care and proper usage. To do that requires practice. Try it. This is on my list of pet peeves for 2014. Why not even wish to sound like you are intelligent...who cares if you are educated or not! You dont have to write, and prove you know nothing. At least, make an attempt at writing well. Nobody wants to just look smart and then open their mouth and prove stupidity...TRY...TRY...TRY...Its easy! TO.......................to do an action(s). TOO.....................Also...And. THEIR..................Ownership. THEYRE...............A contraction meaning, THEY ARE. THEY....................Referring to. Complement…………Adds to or supplements something else. Compliment …………Something nice someone says about someone. Criteria…………………Plural, and the singular form is criterion. Farther…………………Talking about a physical distance. Further…………………Talking about an extension of time or degree. Fewer……………………If you can count it, use fewer. Historic…………………An important event. Historical………………Something that happened in the past Hopefully………………How someone spoke, appeared, or acted. Imply……………………To suggest indirectly…A subtle message. Infer……………………..To come to a conclusion. Insure……………………To insure, call your insurance broker. Ensure…………………. To guarantee. Irregardless……………Sheer stupidity…this is not a word. Regardless………………Without any regard. Literally……………………It is accurate, no metaphors or analogies. Premier……………………First, best, in status or importance. Premiere…………………The opening night of something. Principal………………….Of a school, or the top dog. The head. Principal (Adjective)…The most important of any set. Principle………………….A fundamental truth, law, rule. Then………………………Use when referring to points in time. Than………………………Use when comparing (“I’m better than that”). Unique……………………One of a kind. Who………………………Use who for subjects. Whom……………………Use whom for objects.
