Since I like to take a shit on stupidity a couple times a day: This is in response to Glen Beck dropping his revealing statistics in response to the #BlackLivesMatter movement. A jaunting expose on black on black crime that made every half-listening tv-hypnotised fool say good point. Of course, for anyone whos ever been on the feeling end of any one of these discussions we can see that this was just run of the mill victim blaming and not even a particularly original observation. BUT Since I like to take a shit on stupidity a couple times a day, here is my response to Becks black on black crime statistics as a response to police brutality protesting: Becks statistic are a distortion of the BlackLivesMatter narrative. By distortion I mean misleading logic, not legitimate argument. The vast majority of any murders will be same race. Most white people are killed by other white people, and not by a small margin. This is a world wide, and fairly unsurprising truth that Id like call: The No-Really? Phenomena. #BlackLivesMatter specifically refers to how the African American community is treated with respect to Police Officers. When a black man kills, attempts, or even appears to attempt to kill a cop, they are locked up or killed almost 100% of the time. Without fail, regardless of reasoning (even if its potentially self defense) a black man will go to jail for any kind of harm done to a police officer. Conversely, a police officer is rarely found guilty of murdering or assaulting a black man. Its exceedingly rare. In many cases the police officer in question wont even go to trial. Pointing out that since Black Lives Matter black people should stop killing each other is misleading. Because a) every black person in the world could be killing every other black person in the world and it STILL would not be alright for police to do it, (b) it implies that black people are ignoring the problems within their own community which is pretty insulting, and (c) neglects to point out that most white people are killed by other white people.. and that omission makes black people look inferior and theres a word for that. I guess since Beck is making the comparison inductively rather than out and out saying it, Ill call this: Dry Racism.
