Since Im up thought you folks would like to read some other thoughts about your idea of the healthcare system here. For the record im not Democrat or Republican.... I understand why politicians, doctors, health care providers, private hospitals and shareholders dont back universal health care. They all directly benefit from the private system financially. But it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever to oppose it from a civilian/ patient perspective... Do you know how your healthcare system came about in the first place? Nixon and John Ehrichman (domestic policy advisor) were caught ON TAPE discussing the benefits of introducing a healthcare insurance system that would rely on a totally private sector (you can look up the transcripts or audio). They ACCEPTED the fact that the system relied on an obligation to minimise provision of care in order to maximise profits, and enjoyed the fact that those profits would fall in the hands of those at the top (aka politicians and policy makers who would accept party donations from healthcare lobbyists). The entire private healthcare system depends on one simply rule. The less care provided the better. This culture is imposed upon the doctors on the ground who frequently turn away those in desperate need of medical attention - they are not only praised by their seniors and CEOs, but often are reward with bonuses for doing so. Suddenly you have a society in which healthcare providers are making it their business to limit and minimise healthcare! However they arent the only demons in the mix. The other politically powerful behemoth are the drug manufacturers. With no Government restrictions, drug companies can capitalise on the sick with complete ease. And guess what - the more necessary the drug (aka the more life threatening your illness), the more expensive the drug is. Why? Because beggars cant be choosers - if you need it that badly, give me as much money as you possibly can. For example, in the UK and all other countries with national healthcare, insulin and diabetes care products are free. This does not put a strain on Government spending, because they are cheap to produce and manufacture. In the US, these exact same provisions are some of the most expensive in the healthcare industry. Why? Because they are necessities to actually LIVE, if you don not use them, you will die. You have no choice but to pay whatever is charged in order to live. Perfectly normal and hardworking people in the US live under immense financial pressure and debt due to the unfortunate circumstance of having Type 1 diabetes. People share hatred for the idea of universal healthcare in the US, indulging in outrage for the audacity of being asked to allow their tax dollars to help someone in need who theyve never met. This person might be your neighbour, might be a newborn baby from a less affluent part of town, or could be your great grand daughter a few years down the line. All the while, the people at the top are revelling in their riches. Notice the richest people in the country are those that profit from necessary commodities; energy, medicine, healthcare.
