Since my YZ250 is broken, I raced my 1991 Suzuki DR350S at MWXC RD10, and wore some retro gear to match. The bike worked OK. Im used to racing MX bikes, so in comparison it was really obvious that this is not a serious competition machine. I ran a Kenda Trakmaster II on the rear, and a very old dry-rot-cracked Maxxis Desert IT on the front. Surprisingly the tires, suspension, and low power were not a huge disadvantage. The hardest part to deal with was getting it to start after dumping it upside down Most MX bikes will start right back up, but the DR350 with CV carb requires some patience (literally have to just wait a few minutes) before it will start back up. This bike normally starts with 1 or 2 kicks, hot or cold. Having to sit and wait while the race goes on can be really frustrating. Brakes are the other area this bike is lacking. They were almost completely worthless after about an hour. Im not sure if they boiled their fluid, or if it was just the mud, or if air got in the line from being upside down, but near the end of the race I was pumping and squeezing them to their stops, with very little effect. Scary Anyway I was able to do 3 laps in about 2 hours, which was good enough for 110/166 overall in a field of 99% motocross bikes. The only part that I know I broke so far is the front fender, which was already a bit cracked anyway.
