Since the No Kill Equation was first introduced some shelters have behaved as though it is some sort of huge controversy. However, if you take a look at what is actually in the No Kill Equation, there is really nothing controversial about it at all. The disconnect between some peoples fear of No Kill and what No Kill actually is, I believe, is driven by a basic human characteristic: fear of change. No Kill is wonderful. No Kill, however, does require change. Therefore, like any other social change movement that has ever been, some people resist and are fearful of No Kill. In spite of historic resistance, a growing number of shelters across the USA are moving past the resistance and are taking a serious look at No Kill. To help them, I have produced a new video titled What is No Kill?. It is in two parts. The first half gives a brief history of No Kill and then very quickly goes through the 11 components of the No Kill Equation. The second portion goes through the 11 components in a bit more detail. The video is now on the No Kill Learning web site under the No Kill Equation link. I am also including it below for your convenience. I think if anyone looks at what is really in the No Kill Equation they would realize that not only are the components not controversial, they are things any animal shelter should really be doing no matter what.
