Since the great Schism of 1054 when Christianity spilt in 2 creating the Catholic Church of the West & the Orthodox Church of the east there has only been 1 chance meeting b/w the Pope & Patriarch 50 years ago in Jerusalem. Now we are set for the 2nd in over a 1000 years when the Patriarch Bartholomew meets with Pope Francis in Jerusalem this week. Amazing history in the making and the article written by a Turkish journalist makes some interesting points. I would assume the orthodox talibans like Tommy Galic & Peter Sfyrios would not be happy but surely this is a positive step for all of us so we can move on. A 1000 year old grudge is a bit too long surely ?!?!
