Since the recent murder of this young man Michael Brown, I find - TopicsExpress

Since the recent murder of this young man Michael Brown, I find myself confused. I find myself confused, because Americans are acting surprised by this event. It wasnt that long ago, that there was such volatile debate about whether Trayvon Martin had the right to walk home without being murdered, because someone didnt recognize him. Remember? A few weeks ago, a man was strangled to death on the streets of New York City. This was because he was resisting the police. Remember? These incidents have been going on for DECADES, and EVERY time one happens, people act shocked. Why?!? We all know that the role of law enforcement in the suburbs, is different than their role in urban centers. In The burbs, they serve and protect. In the city, they are a pacification force. We know this, so why are we shocked when they operate within the parameters of their mission? Going forward, I see this as being the series of events. Marches will happen. Promises of Meaningful Changes will be made. A few prayer vigils will be held, and the heartfelt declaration that Justice WILL be served will be made. Some money will be given to the family for their loss, and people will go back to worrying about how long LeBron is going to stay in Cleveland, or when Jay Z is going to drop his next album, and NOTHING will have changed. You dont believe me? Talk to me in November.
