Since the weather in the Chicago suburbs is turning colder and colder, with it hitting the mid-30s at night, we decided to pick all of the green tomatoes on the branches today (except for those as small as a dime which we left on the branches to hopefully still grow in size). We ended up picking 733 more tomatoes! Which brings us to a grand total of 3241 tomatoes for the season. We already have around 180 green tomatoes picked from earlier this month, and nearly 200 red ones we are slowly but surely eating or giving away. So we have around 1,000 tomatoes on hand! (all grape and cherry tomatoes, so we are not being crowded out of our house!) The Grand Total works out to about 1600 tomatoes per plant. Next year, I plan to buy ten tomato plants and see if I can grow 10,000 or more.
