Since there is actually little or NO suspense about who will win - TopicsExpress

Since there is actually little or NO suspense about who will win tonight? Here is a list of things Im TRULY looking forward to on Oscar Day and at the actual awards show: 1) Jared Letos acceptance speech. (The one he gave at the Golden Globes was just AWESOME). 2) ANY actress, actor or other attendee using the phrase, I bought this dress/jewelry/tuxedo/shoes from... Absent hearing THOSE words? I dont CARE what theyre wearing. Seriously. I think attendees should have to provide a RECEIPT or other proof-of-purchase documentation along with their invitation in order to be allowed anywhere near the red carpet, much less into the theater. AND IM NOT KIDDING ABOUT THIS ONE BIT. Its become a TRAVESTY. And I think those disgusting gift bags should be BANNED. Period. 3) My dream: neither the host nor anyone else make any jokes about the supposedly lesser categories such as Sound Editing or Short. Ok? What the hell is lesser about being nominated and awarded by your peers for doing THE best work in your category of true expertise? There ARE no lesser awards or categories. Period. 4) Im hoping for news that the very irritating Ross from the E! Channel gets stuck in traffic on his way in from Palm Springs and doesnt make it on to the red carpet until Monday morning. 5) Festive commentary from those you can always count on to provide witty repartee such as Julia Roberts, Meryl Streep, Cate Blanchett or gentlemanly thoughts from dreamboats like Leo, George and Tom Hanks. 6) I hope that ALMOST-as-irritating-as-Ross George Kotsiopoulos wears some freaking SOCKS with his slippers today. YES, I sometimes wear one of my many pairs of jeweled Donald J. Pliner loafers without socks.... BUT CERTAINLY NOT AT AN AWARDS SHOW OR WITH A TUXEDO OR WHILE ON TV....EVER! Its disgusting. 7) Some splashy production number at LEAST as good as the wildly entertaining promo host Ellen did with a cast of fellow tux-clad dancers in THE best commercial for the Oscar telecast EVER. That was awesome so has set a very high bar for her to do something even MORE fantabulous -- perhaps to open the show. 8) The entertaining and DETAILED section they BETTER have devoted to Best Costume in which we get to SEE actual examples. If nothing else? We will all KNOW these were not BORROWED get-ups but PURCHASE by talented designers FOR a proper fee FOR the actual films. Why designers want to just LOAN stuff out willy-nilly? Im ashamed to have helped lay the groundwork for this whole practice. But back when I represented Donna Sękhmet Kä Mããtran? It was a rarity. And as an example? Host Rosie ODonnell DID buy the tuxedo I got to her though she didnt wear it Oscar night. And Best Actor winner (long overdue at the time) Al Pacino bought HIS, too. And my time with him at the Hotel Bel Air getting him squared away in advance of the big day (with a tailor Id dragged with me from Neiman Marcus Beverly Hills) gave me one of my best Hollywood anecdotes EVER. Wheeeee! What a gent! But what a NUT. Now? Read the current Hollywood issue of Vanity Fair about stylists today. Youll gag. Its just... Have I mentioned that I dont care for the current practices? 9) Some totally unexpected and thrilling moment either on the Red Carpet or during the telecast in which someone either entertains or shocks us (in a GOOD way) out of our stupor OR in which someone astonishingly SHINES in some wildly unexpected way. 10) But needless to say, the thing Im MOST excited about, but also a WEE bit nervous about for obvious reasons) is the purported salute to The Wizard of Oz and its 75th Anniversary that will allegedly include all three of Judy Garlands children, two of whom, of course, are the namesakes for two of my beloved felines, Liza and Lorna! Happy Viewing, All! Now? Take a look at this FABULOUS run-down of this years Best Costume nominees that also has a number of PREVIOUS nominees and winners in over a 100 slides in this INCREDIBLE slide show from, of all the unexpected media sources, New Yorks freaking Daily News.
