Since this happened at a football game, Im going to borrow from Peter King. Things I think I think: 1. This is a far more genuine display than the countless salute to our troops/police displays we so often see at sporting events. 2. This is a show of solidarity for protestors more than a condemnation of the police in general. 3. These guys are going to get fined. Big time. They will probably be strongly urged to offer retractions. I have no idea if they will. 4. Many police departments and organizations will join in the condemnation. I hope that there will be some people in power in at least some police departments who will ask how did we get to a point where we are so feared by a large portion of the population and what can be done about it? 5. If you get right down to it, this is not a cops vs blacks issue. Its a societal issue. We have gotten to a point where, due to a number of issues (including dwindling job opportunities, a minimum wage scale that does not lift anyone out of poverty, slashed school budgets and social service safety nets, and byzantine rules that in effect make it more financially attractive to stay on DSS than to try and find a job that likely doesnt exist anyhow) keep most African-Americans marginalized, thus making thug life one of the few career options, which means that even if youre not a thug, the desire for community requires you to dress and act like one. 6. The glue that holds all of that together is institutional racism. Because whites in the same situation are not stopped, arrested, searched or harassed anywhere as near as African-Americans. Also not shot as much. Of course, this is just my opinion. I could be wrong.
