Since this is an interesting topic to me (and because I am a Star Wars fanatic AKA NERD), I thought I would explain what the upcoming movies are going to attempt as a way to fill in the gap between 6 (which was completed in early 1980s) and 7 (scheduled to be released in the coming years). Apparently, Episode 7 is to be taking place 30 years after the Return of the Jedi. What does this mean to those who dont know the plot line of the Star Wars Expanded Universe? Well (SPOILER ALERT), the Rebel Alliance has transformed itself from a military resistance force into a functioning galactic government. Despite the Emperors death, the Emperor had various influences from the dark side of the force to reproduce himself into various clones in an attempt to thwart Luke Skywalkers mind from the jedi ways towards the dark side, and succeeding for a short period of time as the Emperors new apprentice. The Emperor was ultimately defeated and his essence destroyed to where he continued to revive the ideals of the Jedi Order. About six years following the Battle of Endor, the New Jedi Order was founded by Skywalker, fulfilling his destiny of becoming the first of the new jedi and teaching new force-sensitives about the ways of the force. Through various challenges (Black Fleet Crisis, Almanian Uprising, and lure of Waru), he overcame the feats of oppression and met his soulmate - former Emperors Hand, and fellow Jedi, Mara Jade. Several years after the end of the Galactic Civil War, Skywalker was at the frontlines for the Yuuzhan Vong War, which was an invasion by those deemed the Chosen Race, killing 365 trillion beings in the onslaught. Through the plight, Skywalker had a son, Ben, in memory of Obi-wan (Ben) Kenobi. He fought extensively to where he had regrouped under the reformed government (Galactic Federation of Free Alliances), and pushed back the invaders. Of course, new alliances were made across the galaxy where the war ended. Leading into recent events AFTER THIS, this would be the giant gap J.J. Abrams would be passing over to where we get to the nitty-gritty, tense moments within the Expanded Universe. Despite this gap, I dont know how they are going to explain this to die hard Star Wars fans in theaters, so they better have an explanation for this to me or I will be sorely disappointed! Thus concludes the end of my NERD RANT, as I am confused and Im sure my mom (Alicia Berg) would be curious to how this all plays out.
