Since today is my birthday, I’ve decided to post up some “American Loners”-associated stuff. “American Loners” is a story that I’ve been working on since 2010. I tend to be perfectionistic about this particular story, and I’ve been changing everything about this story a whole bunch of times since 2010. I’ve been influenced by so many diverse things including my family; my friends; some of my own personal experiences; the works of John Steinbeck, Mark Twain, Oscar Wilde, Ray Bradbury, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Franz Kafka (who also shares my birthday), William Shakespeare, and writers from the Beat Generation; the music of The Beatles, The Killers, Arcade Fire, U2, Sonic Youth, Nirvana, Elliott Smith, Talk Talk (especially their last 2 albums), The Who, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, R.E.M., Eagles, Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, and Bruce Springsteen; books such as “The Kite Runner”, “Catcher In The Rye”, and “Dear Mr. Henshaw”; “Young Bloods” artwork by Alexandra Garcy; Facebook pages “Everybody Loves Sammy” and “The Safehouse”; the video game series that my brother Scott likes, “Kingdom Hearts”; the comic strip “PEANUTS”; TV shows such as “Arrested Development”, “The Office”, “King Of The Hill”, “American Dad”, “The Wonder Years”, “Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations”, “Victorious”, and “Avatar: The Last Airbender”; and movies such as “Easy Rider”, “Back To The Future”, “Clueless”, “Toy Story”, “Rebel Without A Cause”, “The Goonies”, “Rosetta”, and “Chelsea Girls.” One theme I want to get across is that hatred divides people, and that there are people from all sorts of different groups who defy those groups’ negative stereotypes and who do have great intentions for themselves and others. I really hope my story will make a positive difference, and I’m so sorry for rambling on.
