Since when does doing anything #likeagirl equate to not good - TopicsExpress

Since when does doing anything #likeagirl equate to not good enough? Why cant #likeagirl mean awesome, incredible? I asked my kids to give me examples of certain action run like a girl, fight like a girl..., what first came to mind. Then asked the same for like a boy. Son, 11, goofball... boy girl.. all goofball. Daughter, 6, didnt know there was a difference to even begin to show. Ran her heart out, karate chopped and power punched the air with all her might, even danced to change it up on me. None the less, stereotyping is out there. Generalizing can be helpful in some aspects like quick decision making or planning. It doesnt have to be made for good or bad. Make your kids aware Boy/Girl matters not.. we need to encourage everyone to be the best them they can be..unique in their own talents AMAZINGLY WONDERFUL! I even got an older friend to show me #likeagirl... they displayed the same as the beginning of this video... but the beauty was getting to open another mind to refining the meaning for our young ones!!! #rewritetherules ------------- Using #LikeAGirl as an insult is a hard knock against any adolescent girl. And since the rest of pubertys really no picnic either, its easy to see what a huge impact it can have on a girls self-confidence. Were kicking off an epic battle to make sure that girls everywhere keep their confidence throughout puberty and beyond, and making a start by showing them that doing it #LikeAGirl is an awesome thing. In my work as a documentarian, I have witnessed the confidence crisis among girls and the negative impact of stereotypes first-hand, said Lauren Greenfield, filmmaker and director of the #LikeAGirl video. When the words like a girl are used to mean something bad, it is profoundly disempowering. I am proud to partner with Always to shed light on how this simple phrase can have a significant and long-lasting impact on girls and women. I am excited to be a part of the movement to redefine like a girl into a positive affirmation. So tell us... what do YOU do #LikeAGirl? For the past 30 years, Always has been empowering girls globally, bringing puberty education to millions of adolescent girls.
