Sir Alex Ferguson has spoken publicly for the first time about the appointment of Louis van Gaal as Manchester United manager by backing the Dutchmanâs determination to âclear the decksâ at Old Trafford. âLouis van Gaal has made a lot of changes and, thinking about that, actually maybe heâs doing the right thing, to clear the decks and build his own team, because heâs got the experience and coaching ability to do that. The way heâs approached it I think has been brilliant.â Ferguson admits that, during a holiday to the Middle East last December, he momentarily missed the pressures of managing the club. âIt was the first time Iâve ever had a holiday in my life in December, and Iâm sitting there at pool side in Abu Dhabi and I said to Cathy, âI should be at Carrington!ââ [Source: MUTV, Telegraph]
