Sir Benjamin Stone : Observations in Brazil 1893 exhibition opening at Sala Brazil, The Embassy of Brazil in London. We are thrilled to have worked on the eagerly anticipated exhibition of previously unseen works by Sir Bejamin Stone. The exhibition, which opened yesterday evening, showcases works from The Library of Birminghams extensive archive and presents 50 previously unpublished photographs by the noted Victorian photographer taken during a journey to Brazil in 1893. Curated by Pete James and Rodrigo Orrantia and presented in partnership with the Brazilian Embassy and with generous support from Jaguar Land Rover and Commercial Doctor, the exhibition tells the story of the famous amateur photographer’s journey to Brazil as part of a Royal Astronomical Society scientific mission to view and record a full solar eclipse. In addition to the images recording this natural phenomenon, the exhibition also showcases Stone’s vast documentation of his journey to Brazil and offers a brilliant glimpse into the people, places and sites which greeted him throughout his expedition. 12th September - 7th November, 2014 Sala Brasil, The Embassy of Brazil in London 14-16 Cockspur Street London SW1Y 5BL Open weekdays, 11am - 5pm.
