Sir Richard de Venables, who was born circa 1365. He married Isabel Langton in 1384. Sir Richard was executed by Henry IV (Hung, drawn and quartered). Richard was a loyal supporter of King Richard II, and raised an army in the County in February 1399 to take an expedition to Ireland. He fought at the battle of Shrewsbury on the side of the Yorkist, Henry Percy. Richard was caught and beheaded on 23 July 1403, two days after the battle. Richard’s body, together with that of Sir Richard Vernon, were sent to Chester to be displayed on the city gates as an example to all others who might rebel against King Henry IV.. Sir Richard was my 20th great-grandfather. Sticky end. Pax.
