Sirius never knew that a big reason for Mad-Eye Moody being declared a mental case by the wizarding world was due to the fact that he had refused, point-blank, to accept that Sirius was in any way involved in the murder of James and Lily Potter and the attempted murder of Harry Potter. Although Moody hadnt seen Sirius or James outside of the occasional glimpse at Order meetings, where he admittedly ignored the both of them, Moody knew that Black would never or could never kill James Potter or allow him to be killed under any circumstances. Moody contested Sirius arrest, pursued it constantly for months until he was forcibly removed from all his cases and stripped of his rank as head of the Auror office by a furious Barty Crouch Senior who made sure word of the attempts to bring Sirius real justice never got out. - Cristie
