Sitting here eating, I was just reading an article on marriage in modern america. It got me really thinking, so I decided to rewrite the vows to be more practical considering our social stance on values. Enjoy! “I, (state your name), take you (for now), to be my lawfully (because legal commitments are easier to squirm out of than moral ones) wedded “partner” in financial and/or household and/or parental responsibility, to have and to hold (unless someone else is more available at the moment), from this day forward (or until an unofficial time that is not yet planned or decided), for better (which is unlikely but let’s give it a shot), for worse (more feasible, and in which case, the local courthouse has dissolution paperwork for a nominal fee), for richer (that’s what we’re hoping for), for poorer (let’s not consider that an option), in sickness (ew, you better not get sick on me), and in health (that sounds… nice), until death do us part (hoping it happens early and naturally to save me from having to take care of it myself).”
