Sitting here watching BBC news. The presenter was talking to a Citizens Advice policy maker and a high ranking Unison union officer. Predictably they were talking about deepening austerity ahead of Georges autumn statement at 12.30 today. The Unison lady rightly pointed out thqt the recovery is a nonsense one due to the normalised race to the bottom in UK employment. Stagnating wages, 0 hours contracts and in-work poverty benefit claimants have become the norm! Yet the rich, big business and banks are doing handsomely. The presenter quickly chimed in that we must not forget that we are still reeling from the post 07/08 crash recession etc. It immediately dawned on me. We are living the title of the Naomi Klein best selling book The Shock Doctrine! The perceived crisis of the banking system stalling paved the way for unprecedented bailouts for the too big to fail institutions and domestic austerity policy roll out in so many developed nation states. A fantastic scam to, in the words of Chunky Mark, the largest movement of public money into private pockets in modern history, performed under the cloak of austerity. Socialism for the rich, austerity for the poor!
