Sitting in Abu Dhabi airport contemplating the close to nine years Ive spent in Aus and all the wonderful people that I am lucky enough to call friends. (Excuse me because this is very self indulgent ;) but I really want to thank those that have been the fabric of my life there. It all began en route to Aus with a stop in Bali where I was lucky enough to meet Bradley, Chris and Michael. Having sworn I wouldnt move to Manly like all the other poms I decided having three friends was a better start than none and that is how I ended up on the amazing Northern Beaches. The next life changer was meeting the girl who has been my constant for the past eight and a half years when Sarah hired me to join her at Edge. Shortly after I met Vanessa and we became firm friends. The early days were dotted with camping trips and surf missions. After a couple of years I got my wish to not live in Manly when I met and moved in with Megan in Freshwater (albeit a stones throw away!) We bonded over my new-found vegetarianism, shoes and watching hour upon hour of boxsets. Around this time the lovely Jo Jo arrived from Sheen and we marvelled over the never-solved mystery of the disappearance of Mark Amphlett. Thru Jo I met one of my now-closest friends Lisa. At the time I was very fortunate to be travelling to some fabulous places for work and enjoyed some hilarious famils with Katie Lettice. Around the same time my partner-in-crime from my previous workplace in London, Jasmine, arrived in Sydney and we had some fun times in our single days with Justine, Sommer and Taryn. In 2008 I bought my first place and I got majorly lucky with my first flatmate when the lovely Lanna. Not only did Lans become a great friend but her now-husband Daren had a tight group of mates in the area and I was fortunate enough to be absorbed. Thus I met Niall, Rob, Timmy, Simon and crew. Timmy had also met Toddy one night in the Wharf bar and he and his now-wife Amy were part of the group. After initially deciding she didnt like me because of a misunderstanding, it was cleared up and we bonded over hot chips at the races. With this fabulous gang Ive shared nights out, dress ups, weekends to Lovedale and the Blue Mountains... and six Christmas in Julys! I was doing pretty well at work and got invited to join the board thanks to our CEO Eddie Thomas, who has been like a second father to me. I cannot thank him enough for all his guidance personally and professionally. Around this time Vanessa moved in with Jeremy, and after dressing me up in his Winter Olympics bobsleigh outfit for my citizenship celebration, we became great friends. Another man who came into my life at this time was Andy, a friend of Lisas who somehow put up with hours of chat about boys and break ups. He along with the others massively indulged (and maybe teased me just a little) with endless trips to the Sugar Lounge as I tried to get the courage to talk to my now husband-to-be Jesper. Luckily Vanessa realised a connection through a neighbour in Melrose Place and we were formally introduced. Another neighbour who became a friend was the lovely Agnes, with whom weve shared camping trips and fun nights out. Through Jesper I met Sophie who moved in with me and its been a pleasure to watch this fabulous girl transform before my very eyes. In 2012 I got serious about my yoga and spent the year in teacher training. I cant thank the fabulous people I met on that journey enough. My teachers – Mark, Nik and Joan – along with my sangha: Jane, Lizzie, Bev, Robin, Liana, V, Kris, Jess and Mish. Amazing amazing people, and truly a life-changing experience. In 2013 I was fortunate enough to start teaching and be part of the amazing community of teachers at Qi and Adore and meet other teacher friends like the wonderful Deb Dharma Bums Lawson. If youve read this far, thanks for indulging me. To all the wonderful people who have been my life in Australia, thank you, I will miss you so much and forever treasure the times we shared.
