Sitting in a tent on the Oregon coast with two kids asleep and one - TopicsExpress

Sitting in a tent on the Oregon coast with two kids asleep and one nodding off, and I am counting my blessings tonight. I decided to head down to our annual surf trip one day early to get some extra time with my dad, but as of 9 this morning, almost nothing had been packed. It took way too long to load up the car, and we made two pit stops before even getting on the freeway. Traffic was terrible getting through downtown Seattle, and again going through Tacoma. We finally crossed over the Wa-Or border on the bridge over the Columbia River on highway 30, and cued up some Gypsy Kings for a welcome to Oregon celebration. About 3 minutes later, the motorcycle just ahead us swerved, throwing its rider across the road like a rag doll before continuing into oncoming traffic. We learned the riders name was Duane as my dad sat stabilizing his head and I held his hand. Three others stopped to help too. Duane was remarkably lucid, and the first responders were quick to arrive. Ada, Henry and Eli waited patiently in the car, praying for Duane. We always pray when we get in the car, most times more out of habit than anything else. Today, I am reminded of the power of prayer, as I know we, and Duane too, were traveling with angels. All of our delays put us on a trajectory to meet Duane at 2:49 this afternoon. Praise God for His protection and provision, for letting us be helping hands, for Duanes limited injuries considering the magnitude of his crash, for the first responders for whom accidents like these are a daily ritual, for the Young Life leader who stood with hands outstretched to slow the oncoming traffic weaving around us, and for the two buddies on their way home from a fishing trip who called 911. What an incredible, amazing, and scary day. Please join me in continuing to pray for Duane tonight.
